Christ has no body now but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which he looks
compassion on this world,
Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good,
Yours are the hands with which he blesses all the world.
Saint Teresa of Avila
Bishop Pilla is quoted to have said, “We do what we do for
others not because they are Catholic but because we are
Catholic.” That is important for us to know and remember,
especially during this Lenten season. Christ needs us to
believe. Justice and charity place a demand upon our generosity.
Jesus calls us to step out of our comfort zones and
care for the hurting, oppressed and downtrodden. As St.
Teresa reminds us, we have an opportunity to do right, to
love mercy, and to walk humbly with God.
Will we? Do we believe?
